The Artisan Story
A nonprofit organization based in Panajachel — a small town on Lake Atitlán in the western highlands of Guatemala — connects 120 indigenous artisans to international markets through Fair Trade programs. Their mission: empower women artisans and their communities, while rescuing and preserving the ancestral Maya weaving culture.
The textiles are woven entirely on backstrap looms, a highly specialized technique in use since the time of the Maya empire. Intricate, durable, and endlessly versatile — each piece is a wearable work of art and a direct investment in the artisan who made it.
